Mike and I went to Bullfrog on Sunday (May 5th) and set up camp at Loop A, Site 22 in the Glen Canyon NRA Campground. This is probably the nicest primitive Federal Campground (no hook-ups at all) that I’ve stayed at. All the roads are paved and all the site pads are concrete. Each site has a very large, curbed sand area for tents and a nice table on a concrete pad. The bathrooms are modern and clean with two large dishwashing sinks outside (but no hot water). The cost was $26/night but I have an Access Pass (disabled veteran) and got it for $13. I found the campground host, Steve, to be about as friendly as they come. Here are a couple of pictures of our setup.

[#800000]The trip could have been a little better. We first had to get there from Ogden and that was an adventure all its own. We met with some very strong headwinds for most of the trip which drove the fuel efficiency into the tank. And then, the oil life minder on my truck went to zero and sent the truck into limp mode and 5 miles an hour on a 75 mph Interstate. And this after changing the oil just 10 days prior and only having put about 430 miles on the truck since the oil change when the oil life hit zero. At this point, I’m hoping that the service tech just forgot to reset the oil life back to 100% at the time of the service. I reset the oil life back to 100% and we were back on our way.[/#800000]

[#800000]At about the time of the limp mode mishap, Mike got a terrible pain in his left side just below his rib cage. He was thinking indigestion or gas pain, but I’m thinking kidney stone. Well, it did come and go but never left completely. He was in pretty bad shape for the whole trip but wouldn’t consent to going home early. He just toughed it out and we fished for two days. He’s scheduled for a CT scan this AM.[/#800000]

[#800000]Lake Powell is supposed to be on fire right now according to all the posted reports on numerous websites. We did catch some fish, but not what we were expecting numbers wise. Two of us boated about 40 bass on Monday which some folks would think was great. But we were expecting that number to be closer to 100 based on all the reports. Most of the fish were smallmouth bass, but here is a picture of a very nice largemouth Mike caught.[/#800000]

[#800000]He caught at least two more in the same class as this one and we each caught a nice walleye about 1 ½ pounds or so. We kept 6 smallmouth and both walleyes to take home.[/#800000]
[#800000][/#800000]
[#800000]Monday afternoon a storm front moved in and we headed back to camp early. The front continued into Tuesday and we ended up quitting early (2 PM) with only about 15 bass boated for our troubles.[/#800000]
[#800000][/#800000]
[#800000]We loaded up the camper Tuesday afternoon and headed back home first thing Wednesday morning. It rained for about the first two hours of the trip home but we didn’t encounter any headwinds so the fuel bill was less going home.[/#800000]
[#800000][/#800000]
[#800000]I had a good time despite all the setbacks and problems and I’m very pleased with my new Lance. There were some minor bugs found in the camper, but I should probably have them all ironed out in a day or two. I’m thinking maybe a trip over to Starvation Reservoir State Park might just be in order next week for some walleye and trout fishing.[/#800000]
