Mason Valley Trout Fest
#1
Was up North this weekend visiting some family in Fallon, NV and decided to grab my brother up and hit the Mason Valley ponds. We hit Hinkson Slough first (never left) and paddled our canoe to the back side of the pond. Was slow at first, a ton of top water where the trout were on the flies. About 2 hours into it found that trout jigs (trout trap brand) were the hot ticket and only on 4 or 6 lb test. Over the next 4 hrs of fishing we landed about 15 trout, seemed like every other cast. We lost about 8 other fish at the boat due to the light line and big fish breaking off. The largest was just over 4 lbs, smallest was 1.75 lbs. All nice fish, very healthy and great fighters. We spotted one trout in a school 10 ft off the boat that was easily 8 lbs but very spooky. We originally went in to target some LMB but didnt see that many and just couldn't pass on some great trout fishing. Sorry no pictures, we had an 18 pack of beer with us and I was assuming we would end up tipping the canoe before the day was over. Never did but definitely came close a couple of times.

Great day of bonding with my little brother and am heading back in two weeks to catch that big guy. I'll take pics next time.

Right on, glad you had a good time. I've spent all my life in NV but I've never taken advantage of the trout fishing up North. I'm going to have to go up one of these days. Please post some pics of the area after your next trip. I'd like to see what I'm missing. [fishin]
