Hi everyone! Haven't posted in a long time as we haven't been able to get out on the lake much this year. But, the last 2 trips have been good, both out of Echo Bay. Last week we ran into a bunch of what I would call "mini" boils. But, the striper weren't chasing bait fish, they were scooping up all of the knats floating on the water. The knats were thick and all over the water, the boat, and us, but the striper were loving them. Never seen anything like that before, but it was good. We brought home a nice cooler of fish. Forgot to take any pics, but took a pic yesterday.
Yesterday we had to get out early knowing the wind would pick up fast. Fished a favorite cove and came up with a 2 lb 5 oz largemouth that was a beauty. Caught 5 other stripers and then got off the lake right before the winds picked up. Another great day fishing.....glad to be back!

Was that you launching the little 12 or 14 footer as we were pulling away from the ramp yesterday AM? My daughter and I were in the blue Tracker.

Hi there.....no, we have a Tracker Pro Guide V16. We launched about 6:15 a.m. and left about 11:15 a.m. I saw several other Trackers, but not a blue one.

I meant to ask your opinion....do you think they will be moving the marina out again anytime soon? The passage is really getting narrow to go around the marina....and the water is still going down. Pretty soon it will be way too narrow.

Ah, the same boat my brother in law has in SoCal. We pulled away from the ramp as soon as there was enough light to not have to put the lights on. Maybe 5am or so and off at noon. Good call getting off when you did. The wind came up so fast just shy of noon...
Good catch!

Sounds like you had a good day too! I had checked the hourly wind forecast on weather.com to kind of get an idea of when we might need to leave. The winds actually picked up a couple of hours earlier than predicted, but that's pretty close. We've been stuck out on the lake when it got real bad, and even though our boat is a Deep V hull, it's not pleasant trying to get out at the ramp. We have a few battle wounds on our boat from doing that, it taught us a lesson! I posted above about the marina, what do you think?

I was sweating that as we pulled in. Sweating maybe they were doing something like that this weekend and the ramp would be closed. It can't last much longer that is for sure before something has to be done. All they have to do is move the dock to the marina to the other side like it was before they moved the marina in. Betting they are sweating that they moved the marina too far in. If I remember right that was a big $$$ evolution to relocate the marina.

Yes, I believe it was lots of $$$ like you said. I have a feeling everyone was getting a little too hopefull that the water would continue to rise. They are going to have to do something soon, for sure. Hey, if we see a blue Tracker, we will be waving. Not sure when we will get out next, but hopefully soon. I would be out there every day if I could!

I checked the same thing and figured pushing it we had till 3pm. The winds certainly came in early. Our deep V isn't enough either. Actually the boat size is fine in pretty decent winds but the weight isn't. Advantage of fiberglass boats and way bigger boats. More weight (downside is bigger motors and a whole lot more $$$).
It does realllllly help when you do get stuck out there in the wind to fill the livewells. I have two. 20 gallon in the front and 40 gallon in the rear so by filling them I add nearly 500 pounds to the boat. Helps cut through the waves verse going up and slapping into them beating the snot out of everything.

Great idea! We only have 1 - 24 gallon livewell in the front, but that would still add weight. We love having an aluminum boat, as it does have it's advantages, except for rough water and wind. Thanks for the tip.....I'm sure we will need to use it sometime!
