Hotspotting?
#41
I agree with you too. That is why I won't even post pictures on this site of waters that I don't want hotspotted.

Sad that it is always the same person or two doing the uncalled for hotspotting. I guess when you are jealous or can't afford to go you have to find ways to pass the time![crazy]

Thats exactly why this board will not get a post from me [Wink]. Its much easier to sit back, suck in all the good fishing info and contribute nothing!!!![Image: bobwink.gif]

Yep, its me.

Some of you old timers are in shock right now.

Life has been good.

I was told about this post by a friend and had to come see for myself.

Funny.

In all the years, I never found a balance for the guy who wanted to keep a secret, and also post it on the internet.

I think its great that a guy wants to share his success and you gotta love the pictures man. You gotta love them.

But, I am glad to see there is 50 some odd posts of battle over secrets posted on the internet.

Some things never change.

Congrats on the nice fish fellas.

For all you who got your secret spot outed, sorry. But thats the internet for you.

Hi Curt! Ralph, Pat, Kent, ect. Good to see you are all here still haveing a blast.

I guess the nice thing is that those of us on here, who would rather see pictures without disclosing location instead of nothing at all, all belong to another forum where the posters are respected. There are more awesome fishing reports on that site than you could even imagine. It is amazing what a little respect and courtesy will do.[/quote]

So why are you over here complaining, when you could be looking at those Awesome fishing reports on the Other Forum?

You could be over there now chatting with all the respectable people. Instead you are over here whining and crying about a lake you have only fished twice in your life.
Do us all a favor and go over to your "Other forum", and take your bottle and diapers with you.

I guess you aren't the only one that can stir the pot! I come over here to stir the pot stirrers.[Tongue]

I also fish the big waters so I enjoy the posts over here. Didn't you see my post on Scofield? I still contribute reports on occasion which I can't say is true for all the pot stirrers.

Plus you get a few newbies who try to contribute but then get slaughtered. I like backing them up when they need it!

Hey Mike, good to see you are alive and kicking. Yea, it is tough to keep everyone happy all the time but it sure is funny these guys that think BFT is declining and not doing as good as it once was, if they could have seen it way back when you got the Utah board started[Wink]. Hope your still getting out for some fishing once and a while.

Just when I thought that I had seen it all you make a post. Mike, good to see you are still among the living and hope you and yours are doing great these days. As far as the chatter on this thread this topic has been debated for years without resolution so I don't expect anything to change now.

Great fun!

I don't think things are all that different...

The topics are all the same...just different folks rotating through them.

Sooner or later those with strong opinions find their way to another board...but they still lurk here.

Deep in my heart I know IFG could staighten this thing out.

Hope to cross paths with old and new on the ice this year!

Ha this is pretty hilarious! When we posted these pics we knew it would be a debate, just didn't know we'd get the whole debate team out. I just hope everyone can get out fishing soon because I'm ready to see everyone have success and post those pics! I don't care where you were or what you were using I just wanna see those beautiful fish!!!

I'm on the +1 for posting location, posting pix, if someone makes a post with photos and doesn't say where - it's fair game in MY book for anyone else to guess or reveal.

If you want to keep it secret - then do it.

But not by posting on a PUBLIC FORUM when you're talking about PUBLIC WATERS - as pointed out - if you've paid your dues, you've paid for access to them thar fish.

Fact of the matter is population is growing. The DWR works hard to encourage more fishing and use of recreational waters and parks. The provide all kinds of info about numerous locations, including [url "http://wildlife.utah.gov/hotspots/detailed.php?id=1166050341"]Birch Creek[/url] (damn - he said it!) I fail to understand the mentality behind encouraging youth to get into fishing, but at the same time trying to keep a lid on it all.

If you want LESS fishermen, maybe we need a program like DARE - but for fishing. Instead of DARE to stay of drugs, DARE to stay off the water. I can see the T-shirts now. Maybe we need a DARE to pick up after yourselves!

Maybe if you crop or photoshop your photos so they don't reveal telling signs of a location. Kinda like putting up a photo of your girlfriend in a bikini, and painting over her chest. So why choose that photo to post? Sorry - just silly in my book (maybe a little disappointing too [:p]).

Clearly one of those arguments that won't ever be settled, just like C&R vs C&F&C&E (*catch, fillet, cook, eat).

Don't know that I'll ever make it over to BC, but glad to know it's there, encouraged to know someone is out catching fish. Thanks for the REPORT.

I'm new to this but there is something that I don't get. Isn't the whole purpose of BFT to share information with other fishermen (women)? Why are you a member if you don't want to share more than a picture to brag. When asked where you were and what you used you don't say where and you say typical trout lures. I was under the assumption that BFT was a page built to help each other out and to, if possible make fishing an even better experience. Not a place to say "bet you wish you knew where I caught this." Just saying.
This was the first post I looked at, and must say I am a little dissappointed.

I don't think the whole point of BFT was to share and help. Sometimes it is nice to just see pictures of big fish and know they came from Utah. BFT is also a great place to make some fishing buddies.

Some lakes can't handle the pressure brought on by posting on BFT. As many have stated on here, BFT has become a place where you just can't post a picture of some nice Utah fish without getting flamed or the location revealed. Notice that the only ones who really stick around are moderators and older guys who fish the large waters (who are most likely moderators).

You are not seeing many reports on BFT from the younger guys who have to work hard to get to obscure waters. But that is OK. I guess BFT is turning into more of a place where newbies can learn a few things and the older guys who like fishing huge waters can brag and hang with old friends.

There are several other sites that are geared more towards the younger (and some awesome older ladies and gents) crowd who don't need so much advice and learning and would rather see reports and pictures, even if locations and some details are left out. Many of these sites also require that you be a member to read reports and actually contribute before you can visit certain areas of the site. This forces people to actually go out and fish before learning the secrets and locations that many have worked hard for and to contribute to the site.

Why contribute to BFT when you can just sit back and take if whatever you want without having to do a thing?! Most of the pot stirrers don't add anything constructive. They just come out when they know they can get a rise from someone. I posted a very helpful report for the first time in a while and got some slack for certain aspects of it. Reminded me why I rarely report trips on here.

I do know one thing though. If and i say IF i ever do post any other pics on BFT im not going to tell everyone where and what i was using and im going to take the picture so you cant tell where the hell im at and it will just be a picture I have had tons of PM s off the pics that i had posted and i have no problem giving people information on what and where i was at. Any who Jackson can you send me a PM of those other sites so i dont have to worry about the people that site home all day and have nothing better to do but get rises out of people HJB. I"ll still read post and look at pics on BFT but i would like to see what other web sites have to offer.

Well said, Jacksonman.

I think many of us in here agree 100% with what you said...especially the part where some places just can't handle all the pressure (and you don't have to be a rocket scientist to figure that one out).

So what John said- if you want it secret...for heaven sakes KEEP IT SECRET and don't post it on the web. I learned that lesson years ago. I don't mind sharing lake info/techniques, etc...but only if it's a bigger lake e.g. Strawberry, U.L.

But yeah, I don't post much like I used to. Too many people in here trying to 'one-up' somebody else, or trying to prove how great of a fisherman they might be. To me that's not fun. Nobody in here is better than anyone else.

I think Pat said it right: it's kinda silly for everyone to be arguing over fishies when we should be enjoying the fishing instead.

New to the site... I was just wondering if this is an informational site (where you come to get fishing tips and information) or a Bragging board???

If you want to keep it a secret don't post it!!!

I think it is up to the individual poster what they want to reveal, show and post. If they want to just put up a pic of fish and brag I have no issues with that love to see good fish porn. If they want to give out GPS coordinates show a detailed map and how they caught the fish expect to see more traffic next time you go fishing there. Yes you take some risks posting a picture on the internet. I mainly just shoot the fish without background shots for that reason. I post on very few of my trips any longer because a lot of the waters I fish are smaller sensitive waters. I have issue when the original poster does not reveal the location especially when asked why does someone from the peanut gallery have to blurt it out? 801sprtsmn pm coming your way.
