Finally...Reading all the posts pays off

[sly] First off, thanks to all who post on here your tips really are great. I picked up a bass boat a few weeks back and have been getting skunked at Lake Mead 3 weeks in a row. Not this last weekend though! Landed 15 strippers and 4 LMB. (sorry no pics...smart guy didnt take a camera)

I hit the water out of Calville right at 5:30 am Sunday. Hit a few coves and pulled in 4 LMB, the largest was 3.3 lbs. Good action, missed setting the hook on a few fish or it would have been more.

On the way back to the docks at 10:00 (running from the storm clouds) i spotted a huge school of stripers in 70 ft of water and stopped right on top of them. Using a technique i read on here i landed one after the other. It was pretty amazing. All i did was keep them on my finder, drop the spoon over the side, let it hit the bottom, jig a few times and then just reeled it in as fast as i could. Every other drop landed a fish, the biggest was just over 5 lbs. Good times!! Looking forward to hitting it again this coming weekend.

All fish were released.

What kind of spoon did you use? Did you follow the advice on the silver spoon/white spoon for cloudy or sunny days?

I was using a Krocodile chrome spoon and a chrome spinnow. I prefer the spinnow because its heavier and gets to the bottom a little quicker.

Did u catch both largies and stripers on the same lure?

I caught the large mouths on deeps diving crank baits fishing along weed beds and the shoreline in coves. It was a mix of a crawdad pattern and a shad with a bright orange on the belly. Just keep the lure down on the bottom, i got snagged on weeds a lot but it payed off.

There was a ton of top water action, i tried a couple different zara spooks and wacky rig senkos but they just werent interested at all.

I am going to have to get me some of those Krocodile spoons and chrome spinnows. I have some kastmasters. Wouldn't they do the trick as well? When you let them sink did you cast them out a ways and then let them sink? Or did you just drop down over the side of the boat?

I would think they would do the trick but you never know with these fish. The Spinnows were recommended to me by the guys at the bait shop near the lake, apparently thats what all the fishing guides are using and they swear by them, especially using the approach of dropping through the school and reeling in pretty fast to instigate the bite. I just happen to have a krocodile in my arsenal and it payed off.

Normally i find schools and cast out but i think i have been casting away from where the fish are. This time i just keep the school directly under me (had to do some trolling) and dropped the line over the side of the boat. I had to have been landing it right in the middle of the school every time.

This coming weekend will tell me if i was just lucky. I am gonna try the same tactic and see what happens. THis time im taking a camera!!!

I might give that a try this weekend too. Were the fish in large schools and did they seem to move around or just kind of hang off of drop offs or random structure?

I found them just outside Callville bay lingering i at the mouth of one of the large coves to the left (near the big a$$ rock islands). For the most part they stayed in 100 yard area. I had to move around every 5 - 10 minutes to keep them on my finder. Most of the ones i spotted that day, at least the schools, were in 60 to 80 foot of water hanging out towards the bottom.
