d.n.r. just addoped some new regulations concerning the elk draw . point system . after the next six years of drawing and your unsucessfull they put in another six drawings tags for you . so every six years you get another six extra draw tickets . 1-1-1-1-1-1+6 , 1-1-1-1-1-1+6 , 1-1-1-1-1-1+6 and so on .

now , the down side . if you get a licence , dosen't matter if you get an elk or not , that is your one and only lifetime hunt .

there's new regulations about bringing an out of state harvested animal to michigan too !

[font "arial, helvetica, sans-serif"][#00e010]Anticipted Changes for the 2004 Elk Application[/#00e010][/font]
[font "arial, helvetica, sans-serif"][black] [ul] [li]A weighted random lottery to select successful applicants. [li]Hunters may be limited to one elk license per lifetime. [li]An option to donate the authority to purchase a license to a youth or a terminally ill individual. [/li][/ul]

The anticipated 2004 weighted lottery for elk licenses will remain a random selection. An individual’s chances will increase by one for each year the individual applies and is not successful. Example: An individual that applies for three years without being drawn will have three chances (placed in the applicant pool three times), as opposed to an individual applying for the first time that will have one chance (placed in the applicant pool one time).

If the weighted lottery is implemented, applicants who are unsuccessful in the 2003 draw and apply in 2004 will be placed in the applicant pool two times in 2004. Check the 2004 elk guide for details.

NOTE: There is no guarantee of being drawn in a weighted lottery.[/black][/font]

this rule has not been made oficial yet.

It is not till the winter meeting that the disision will be made. this is to give hunters an opertunity to voice their opinions about the rulling.

I know personaly I do not like the rulling at all. I can understand making a rule that any one who takes an elk only have one elk in a life time,

but what about those who have not bagged an elk? the dnr resells the tags for another hunt for a second hunt if you are an unfortunate sole who comes home elkless.[mad] I am one of them soles. I 1985 I got an elk license but because of the horrific weather conditions many hunters were driven out of the woods on the first season. for those of us, we will never have the oppertunity to bag an elk in michigan if this rule is addopted. [mad]

thanks for the heads up. make sure to post this on the michigan board at theoutdoorlodge.com

I now what you mean! I get upset every year about this but every year I still apply. My wife got a cow in 96 and the experience was great. I gun hunt for deer in the elk capital of michigan and I see elk all the time. Every year I see a couple of bulls that are just massive. I can still dream.

no elk for me either , and i don't like the new proposed regulations either .

the turkey link was suposed to be listed aug. 01 , 2003 . it's not up yet .

did you see what the d.n.r. generates in cash just on the bear lotto ? heck for that kind of money they ought to be able to buy a few thousand acers of farmland for thoes in the lower mit as a hunting area that's closer to home .

poor dave , you'll be hunting tusks instead of racks . wild pork pie !

after the money hits the genneral fund the state cant afford to buy a tooth pick let lone a place to grow one.[unsure]

they used to collect monies from sportsmen through a sportsman stamp to lease lands from farmers for hunters to hunt. was a good deal for both farmers hunters alike. farmers were paid to leave crops in the fields to provide forage to increase hunters and game. That was my bigest pet peeve about X-Govener ingler

[unimpressed] Minnesotas money goes into the general fund too , that sucks !! Back in North Dakota where I grew up , the money generated by the sales of licenses and taxes from items used for the outdoors , stayed in the Game and Fish fund ! They always had money !!!!!! So I'll have to put up with not having the best Minnesota could do with wildlife , but I can a sure you the drug dealers in Minneapolis have nicely paved alleys to do there dealing on !!!!!!!!

ever since X-govener millican our state parks have been down sized because he saw all the revinews that the fishing and hunting sports and tourism generated, he just had to put his hands on it. no one has ever seen fit to put it back. now we loose hundered of millions do to loss tourism revinues because they dont keep up the programs that are needed for the schools nature feild trips.

when I was young, sure we had the week camp that the schools sent us on one week (5 days during our perocreal classes) we also had numrous parks with numrous educational venues available for the schools to take advantage of. As of today every one of those programs have since been terminated and nothing has ever been put back in its place.

all because some govener beleives that that money belongs to their personal budget.
