any tips on glendale lake

i am going to glendale lake with my son may 16-17th we are going to fish for walleye mornings &evenings crappie in the day. any tips on locations,pattrens,depths and bait selection would help.also any tackle shop close to lake.

I can help you on this one! Glendale lake is one of my favorite lakes. My parents have a Pontoon that they keep docked up there in the summer, so i fish it a ton.

First off im gonna tell you to launch you boat at Beaver Valley Marina because it is in the middle of the lake and it is not as busy as the main marina. Another reason is when i go for walleye i seem to have luck there. At that marina there is a little man made peninsula that comes out onto the lake to protect the launch. It is kinda rocky there and the walleye just seem to like it. this time of year i use jigs up there. if you are not marking and fish try at the breast of the dam, which is right by beaver valley also. I was also told that the slatelick part of the dam is good for eyes too, even clear up in the weeds.

Now for crappie if you look at the killbuck area of the lake you will see range road on one side of the lake and long road on the other. these 2 roads used to be one road and go the whole way across the lake. on that road there are 2 underwater bridges. if you can find those bridges you will be in crappie heaven, walleye seem to like it to. you will notice that those 2 roads are now boat launches, line them up and you will have a general idea where the road runs. if you have a fish finder you will have no problem finding the road bed, it shoots up fairly far and drops right back off. once you find the road bed just scan it for the bridges, you will know when you hit them.

There are 2 bait shops that i go to. one is on Rt 53 and its name is Uncle Phils. they are a genneral store that also sells bait. good place to grab something to eat on your way also. the others name is 10in1. it is on Beaver Valley Road (same road as the marina i told u to go to). they are a big bait and tackle shop, so if you are looking for something in particular you might wanna stop there. If you find yourself looking for 10in1 and cant find it, it is at the end of beaver valley road almost where it intersects with glendale lake road. well i hope i helped you out a little here and i hope you get some fish also. Please let me know how you do, and take a camera for pictures. if you like it and decide to go back maybe we can meet up and go fishing together up there sometime.

thanks for the fishing tips i will try them.i also just updated my boat to a 17ft fisher but i have a 40hp outboard on it when i get a 10hp kicker on it i will contact you abuot maybe hitting up the lake you also said your dad had fished for striper at raystown maybe we could get a game plan together and try for them sometime i did talk to 4 other people that gave me a couple of ideas but i never fished for stripers so it might be tough.some of my buddies told me the eyes are starting to hit on the quenamahoning dam if you wuold lie to try it or something differnt down this way leave me know

Nice i plan on getting a boat in the spring of next year. Im looking at g3 boats. I really like the eagle 165 and the eagle 170, but im not sure which one im going to get yet. I guess it all depends on how well the 170 goes with a 20hp on it. the 170 is only 5" longer but it is a full 13" wider which makes a big difference if you ask me.

Anyway, i will talk to my dad and see if he wants to go down to raystown sometime for striper. Im sure he will be up for it so i will let you know. I do know that he trolled alot for them but i don't know if he ever casted for them or not.

I always wanted to go out to the quenamahoning and try my luck, but i always thought it was a rather large dam for all electric. Not knowing the dam and trying to find a spot with an electric motor could get a bit frustrating. I fish alot on electric motor only dams but i also know the water as well. Being that you know the Q maybe we can meet up there and i can follow u around sometime. Im only about a 45min drive from there so it aint no big deal to drive out.

As for glendale maybe you would wanna come up and go out with me and my dad sometime for crappie on his pontoon. In only goes about 6mph but it will eventually get ya where you want to go lol.

sounds great i will talk to some of my buddies to find out what ,where and when the walleyes are hitting and we will get together and try our luck most of the time we do pretty good but no promises we troll most of the time a couple places we jig and cast plugs there is 1 good feeding shelf that not to many people fish it can be very productive. i can also give you a good overveiw of the lake.i would love to go to glendale lake with you and your dad if there is room my son would most likley go.he likes to fish til around july then he likes to swim and do other activeties he also loves to fish while they are hitting but when it slows down he gets bored.don't we all LOL from what i under stand the stripers hit best at night especialy when the pleasure boating starts on raystown almost any fri or sat night would work but i have to get the right equitment of all the questions i asked i forgot to ask one of the first i should have.talk about putting the horse before the cart.LOLthat would be a hoot to rip in to a stripper with my trout rod.

Hell yeah you can bring your boy, its a 20' pontoon. Its got 4 fishing seats, 2 in the front and 2 in the back. If you need to take a break there is a wrap around couch in the middle. We did not put the boat in the water yet but we plan on it soon. Hopefully we will have it in within the next 2 weeks.

Keep me posted on the walleye over there in your neck of the woods and i'll pull my 12 footer over and we will see what we can do.

As far as raystown just let us know in advance when you would like to go and ill tell my dad and let you know if it is a go. Till then talk to ya soon.

Hello gents, let me introduce myself. This thread appears to be about a year old but hopefully it isn't completely dead. More than 20 years ago my wife and I bought a vacant lot in Glendale Yearound with the intention of building somekind of cabin on it someday. Our plans kinda got waylaid when we bought a condo in Florida after our oldest daughter moved there after college. Anyway we never built at GR but I'm within about 2 years of retiring now and am seriously considering selling the condo and building in Glendale. I haven't fished Glendale in at least 10 years. When my dad still had his 16ft boat I used to launch it at the causeway at Wyerough Run and go under the bridge back to the 2nd cove on the right. In about 10 ft of water I used to catch catfish right and left back there using night crawlers. We vacationed up there one summer for about 10 days and I recall the big thing was largemouth bass. Alot of guys used to Texas rig a plastic nightcrawler in hopes of catching them. I caught one or two that way but was never very good at it. Well my dad is too old and in bad health these days and sold his boat long ago because I sorta took up golf when we began vacationing in Florida. I recently bought me one of those inflatable pontoon boats/rafts that has a little 30 lb electric motor attached and I wanted to re-explore Glendale in my old age. Been reading alot on the internet about Northerns & Walleys becoming more abundant there. It was always supposed to be a good muskie lake. Was wondering what tips you can give me about catching Bass, Walleye, Crappies, Northerns and Muskies. When I say "tips" I mean what parts of the lake would you recommend, what time of the year, and what kinds of baits are you presenting. I have some big muskie lures and thought I might try trolling for them. My little pontoon is not real fast but the 30 lb motor moves me fast enough to do a slow troll.
P.S. I'm also an avid trout fisherman and I although Glendale is obviously not known to be a cold water fishery, I understand that at least 2 of the Glendale tributaries (Beaverdam Run and Killbuck Run, I believe) are stocked trout waters. Any advice on catching trout there would also be appreciated.

Welcome to the form Centerpinner! I like fishing at glendale. I fish it more than any other lake. There is alot of good fishing there if you know where to look. I also have one of those little boat that you are speaking of, i just never use it up there. I find it easier to get around on my bass boat. but anyway i think one of the best sport to use that pontoon would be the back end of slate lick. alot of bass back in there in the shallows, alot of pike to. I found that i dont catch many pike with big muskie lures. A size 8 X-rap will do the trick for those guys or even a white spinnerbait. There are other posts on this form that i did about glendale that will help you learn more about the lake. If you want a good shot at a big northern May is the time to go. It really starts to heat up this time of year.

Here is the link to Rapalas website. It will give you a better idea of what they are. In short they are a suspending jerk bait. You can get them at Wal-mart, Gander Mountain and Dicks. I recommend the perch and clown colors.
