Salmon Falls Creek Reservoir, Norton Bay
#1
Finally got out yesterday, 1st day of the new year. Couldn't get in to Grey's Landing or Big Sand Bay as the road was very drifted! Tried Norton Bay's road and other that being muddy still would suggest 4x4 to get in.[Smile]

Ice had water on the top but was 8+" deep. Kind of eery looking but plent of ice. Need to have some type of cleats on the boots whether it be the boughten kind or screwing in some 1/4" sheet metal screws in the bottom of your boots, other wise you will be slippin and when you go down you will be wet, brrr.[frown]

I fished from 2- 6pm and landed 1 trout, saw 2 other guys land a real nice trout.

Here's some pics of the day.

Thought I would add to the story of the 2 guys I saw fihing and the special situation dealing with their fish. Guess they had lost a pole earlier and I guess the trout that took the rod decided to bring it back.

Well I took my summer fishin buddy, Andy, out for his first his first hard water fishin experience. We got o the water at 8:30, with a balmy 19 deg and 14mph breeze, the water temp was 32.5 deg and surrounded by 8-10 of ice. We fished near shore with our best results i 6' with a jig and nightcraler. Landed 1 16'er and had 2 break offs and 1 that just let go. Had something teasing us with gentle but firm tugs just when we would yawn or lookup.

We fished till 4:30 and head home with our 1 fish. It's good to get these first outing out of the way, to work the bugs out of the gear arrangements and so on. Can't wait till the perch come a knockin at our jigs.

Andy's ready to go again, imagine that, he likes it[cool]

Not may pics, but that artist I love so much was at work agin to start out the morning drive in.

Nice set up Michael, you are really tempting me to come over and fish this winter with you. I haven't done the frozen water thing for at least 8 years, but if you keep posting nice pictures like that, I may have to venture out.
Looking forward to some more ice fishing reports.
