Ice at Spinney?
#1
Anyone seen Spinney and how the ice is? A website I found mentions that ice off is usually late April to early May. It says Spinney is open ice-off until ice-on, so is it safe to assume you can fish it once there is any open water, no matter how little?

They will announce an opening date and it has to pretty much be ice free before they open it. It usually happens sometime between about April 18 and April 25 or so.

The opening date is publicized in both newspapers a few days ahead of time and I'll post it here, too, once it's announced. It will also be posted at http://parks.state.co.us/Parks/spinneymountain

Right now it is still locked up tight. Eleven Mile still has more than 2 feet of ice, so I'm sure Spinney has ice in that ballpark, too.

Thanks Don! I figured it was still iced up pretty well, but wow, 2 feet at 11-Mile!?[shocked] But I guess areas to the south have been cold and received a ton of snow this year.

Have you been to the Spinney on the opening? Is it a mad house? I don't care too much as I still want to be there!

You're welcome. Nope, I've never fished Spinney on opening day because I just have no interest in fishing in crowds. I hear they still line up in their cars at the gate the night before!

Good luck and please post a report if you go! Big trout in Spinney!
