Upper Peninsula:[/url]

Lake Gogebic is producing fair walleye fishing. The best fishing is found on the north end of the lake. Sucker minnows hooked to the end of a tip-up are working well as bait.

Out of the Marquette area, the pike fishing is good on the Greenwood Reservoir. The perch and walleye action on Teal Lake ranges from fair to good. The perch are hitting on wigglers, the walleye prefer minnows as bait.

By Escanaba, the walleye fishing is good on Little Bay de Noc. The marble eyes are hitting on both jigs and tip-ups. The perch fishing on the bay is fair. Anglers punching holes through the ice on Escanaba Harbor are catching a couple of pike.

In the Manistique area, the perch fishing is good on Indian Lake. Mornings are the best time to be out, with minnows being the preferred bait. Anglers are finding some good whitefish fishing on the upper end of the St. Marys River by Sault Ste. Marie. The whitefish are hitting on a teardrop tipped with a waxworm.

The perch, pike and walleye action is good on Munuscong Bay. The perch are hitting on jigs tipped with a minnow. The pike and walleye are hitting on both jigs and tip-ups.

Around Drummond Island, anglers are spearing some pike through the ice on Scott Bay.

And at St. Ignace, the walleye fishing is fair on Brevort Lake. Try using a jig tipped with a minnow.

Northwest:[/url]

Burt and Crooked lakes near Alanson are producing good perch and walleye fishing. Minnows are working well as bait.

Out of the Boyne City area, the perch and walleye fishing is good on Walloon Lake. Anglers on Deer Lake are catching a few bluegill, perch and pike. The splake fishing is fair on Thumb Lake. The perch and walleye fishing is fair on the South Arm of Lake Charlevoix.

In the Traverse City area, the perch and walleye fishing is fair on Long Lake. The bluegill and pike fishing is decent on Spider Lake.

Around Frankfort, the perch and pike action is fair on Arcadia Lake. Anglers on Loon Lake are catching a few perch, pike and walleye. The steelhead action is spotty on both the Betsie and Platte rivers.

By Kalkaska, the perch fishing is good on Lake Skegemog. The fish are hitting on jigs tipped with a minnow or waxworm. Manistee Lake is producing fair to good walleye fishing.

Anglers on Otsego Lake near Gaylord are catching a few walleye, using jigs tipped with a blue shiner minnow.

And at Cadillac, the pike fishing is very good on both lakes Cadillac and Mitchell. The panfish fishing is improving on both lakes. Early mornings or late afternoons are the best times to be out for the panfish.

The upper end of Hamlin Lake near Ludington is producing some very good bluegill fishing. The pike action is good and an occasional walleye is mixing in with the catches. Anglers on the lower end of Hamlin Lake are finding the walleye action ranges from fair to good. The walleye are hitting on both jigs and tip-ups.

White Lake near Whitehall is producing fair to good bluegill and pike action.

Around Muskegon, the panfish fishing is fair on Snug Harbor on Muskegon Lake out from the Muskegon State Park. Anglers on the upper end of the Muskegon River are reeling in a few steelhead.

Out on Chippewa Lake, the pike fishing is very good. The bluegill action is fair.

And at Baldwin, most of the lakes in the area are producing fair bluegill fishing.

Southwest:[/url]

Out of the Holland area, anglers on Lake Macatawa are catching a few bluegill. The gills are hitting on teardrops tipped with a spike or waxworm. The gill fishing is also fair on Hutchins Lake.

Fishing activity this week is slow in the Benton harbor area.

By New Buffalo, the crappie and steelhead fishing is fair on the Galien River.

Around Kalamazoo, the bluegill fishing is good on Gravel, Fish and Sugarloaf lakes. Spikes and mousies are working well as bait. Anglers fishing the channels around Gun Lake are catching a few crappie. The perch fishing ranges from fair to good on Austin Lake. Both minnows and wigglers are being used as bait. On the St. Joseph River, below the Berrien Springs Dam, the steelhead action is fair to good.

And at Three Rivers, the ice conditions vary from lake to lake, but where there is ice thick enough to allow anglers to get out the bluegill, crappie and perch fishing is fair.

Northeast:[/url]

Grand and Long lakes near Alpena are producing good perch and walleye fishing. The perch and walleye action on Hubbard Lake is fair.

The pike and walleye fishing is good on Lake Margrethe by Grayling. Most of the fish being caught are found in water 12 to 20 feet deep. The perch action on the lake is fair. Anglers on Manistee Lake are catching a few bluegill.

Around Oscoda, the perch fishing is very good on Van Etten Lake. The fish are hitting on a variety of baits. The bluegill, perch, pike and walleye action is good on Cooke Dam and Foote Dam ponds. Anglers along the Au Sable River, below the dam, are catching a few steelhead.

Higgins Lake is still open, and fishing activity this week is slow.

Out on Houghton Lake, the pike and walleye fishing is good. The walleye are hitting on jigs, the northerns on tip-ups. Early mornings or late afternoons are the best times to be out.

And at Au Gres, the perch fishing is fair on Saginaw Bay near the mouth of the Pine River and south of Point Au Gres. Minnows are working well as bait, in water three to six feet deep.

Around Linwood, the perch fishing is fair along the Saginaw Bay shoreline. The best fishing is found out from Linwood Road.

Out of the Bay City area, the perch action is good on Saginaw Bay. One of the best spots to drop a line through the ice is by the Quanicassee River. The walleye fishing is fair on the bay near Thomas Road.

Around Bay Port, the walleye fishing is good on Saginaw Bay near Fish Point. The perch action is fair out from Geiger Road and Mud Creek.

And in Port Huron, the steelhead fishing is spotty, at best, on the St. Clair River. The best fishing is found north of the Black River.

In the Mount Pleasant area, the bluegill fishing is very good on Stevenson Lake. Waxworms are the preferred bait. The perch action is good on Lake Isabella. Anglers on Deerfield Lake are catching a few pike.

Around Lansing, Muskrat Lake is producing fair bluegill fishing. Anglers on Lake Lansing are pulling a few pike through the ice, using tip-ups. Along the Grand River, the catfish and walleye action is fair.

And at Jackson, the bluegill and crappie fishing is very good on Clark, Devils, Vineyard and Wamplers lakes. Both spikes are waxworms are being used as bait. Devils and Wamplers lakes are also producing some good pike action.

Southeast:[/url]

Anglers on Schneider’s Bay in the Fair Haven area are catching a few bluegill, sunfish along with an occasional perch.

On the west side of Lake St. Clair, the perch action is good on the canals between Metropolitan Beach and St. Clair Shores. The problem is getting access to the canals, where most of the property is privately owned.

Along the lower end of the Detroit River, the perch fishing is fair for anglers in boats or for those fishing off docks or along the shoreline. The Huron River is producing fair steelhead action.

Fishing activity is slow this week in the Monroe area, due to the lack of safe ice in the area. By Belleville, the perch fishing is fair on Ford Lake.

And between Dexter and Chelsea, the pike fishing is good on Four Mile Lake.

Ice conditions in much of the Lower Peninsula have deteriorated but anglers in the Upper Peninsula are ice fishing. Warm temperatures have increased the steelhead action in many of the rivers however anglers will need to use caution because of the high water levels.

Southeast Lower Peninsula
Lake Erie - Boat anglers are going out of Lake Erie Metro Park for perch and bluegills. Those fishing the marina have caught a good number of bluegills but many were running on the small side. Wax worms and spikes worked best.
Huron River - Shore anglers and those in drift boats are catching trout when using a small jig with spawn or a wax worm under a bobber. Some are casting spinners or Hot-n-Tots. The best action has been at Rockwood near Labo Park.
Detroit River - Boat anglers are catching some nice perch between Gibraltar and the River Rouge. Some are fishing the many canals around Gibraltar. Shiner minnows and perch rigs seem to work best.
Saginaw Bay - Ice conditions are deteriorating fast all over Saginaw Bay. Right now the water is really muddy because of all the runoff, so fishing has not been all that good. Anglers would be better off waiting for the next cold snap to tighten up the ice.
Southwest Lower Peninsula
St. Joseph - Pier anglers are taking a few whitefish on a small hook and egg.
St. Joseph River - Water levels are high and muddy. Fishing has been slow.
Grand River at Grand Rapids - Boat and shore anglers are steelhead fishing. With water levels on the rise, look for the steelhead up near the dam while using choker bags with 7 to 15 eggs. A couple of brown trout were caught. Those fishing off the bridges will want to use spawn just off the bottom. Walleye are being caught on jigs with wax worms or minnows.
Grand River at Lansing - Has high water levels. A few small walleye and some pike have been caught over at Moore's Park.
Muskegon - Pier anglers have a good chance to catch steelhead with the warm water coming downstream.
Muskegon Lake - Boat anglers are still going out. By day, they are catching pike and steelhead. Those fishing the west end of the lake are taking perch, but some sorting will be necessary. At night, anglers are catching pike and walleye.
Muskegon River - High water levels should push more steelhead upstream towards Bridgeton and Newaygo.
White River - Look for steelhead up near Hesperia.
Northeast Lower Peninsula
Grand Lake - A few anglers were still taking some perch and walleye, but most people are staying away from the ice because of the warm spell.
Long Lake - Has some ice anglers catching walleye and perch, but caution needs to be used.
Thunder Bay River - Steelhead action could increase with the onset of warmer temperatures.
Hubbard Lake - Does not have safe ice at this time. Anglers will need to wait for the next cold spell.
Au Sable River - There are reports of some steelhead being caught from Oscoda to Foote Dam. Some of the boat ramps are useable, but not sure how long that will last as they could be ice coated by the weekend. Those fishing the backwaters are limiting out on panfish. Limits of pike were reported east of M-65.
Higgins Lake - Finally froze over, but warm temperatures this week have pushed the ice anglers back closer to shore. A few brown trout have been caught in shallow waters near the Conference Center. Those fishing down on the south end of the lake off the State Park are believed to be catching perch.
Houghton Lake - The snow is off and the ice is holding. Those jigging minnows are taking walleye and the pike are hitting on tip-ups. Panfish are also being caught.
Northwest Lower Peninsula
Traverse City - Boat anglers have been catching whitefish near Dock Road in the East Bay and near the Gravel Pit in the West Bay. Try Swedish Pimples or whitefish jigs in 85 to 250 feet of water, as the fish are scattered. Small lake trout have also been caught.
Boardman River - Has warm water and good steelhead action.
Crystal Lake - Boat anglers report fair to good perch fishing.
Betsie River - Has good steelhead movement.
Manistee River - Not much has been said about steelhead but high water levels by the end of the week could spur some action.
Lake Missaukee - Ice anglers have caught good numbers of panfish.
Lake Cadillac - Has ice, but it is very sloppy right now. Fishing continues to be good for pike and crappie.
Lake Mitchell - Has about 3 inches of water on top of the ice but the fishing has been good for pike and crappie.
Upper Peninsula
Portage Lake - In Houghton County has been good for ice fishing. Chassell Bay has been productive for pike when using tip-ups with smelt or shiners. Jigging with spoons or rapalas can also be productive. Walleye were caught near the Humps when jigging a Swedish Pimple tipped with a minnow. Best times were just before dark or just after daybreak.
Keweenaw Bay - Has no ice. It is usually around the end of January before the ice sets up in this large bay of Lake Superior.
Fortune Lake - Near Crystal Falls has good pike fishing. The fish are bigger this year and are hitting on live bait.
Michigamme Reservoir - A few walleye and pike have been caught.
Little Bay De Noc - Ice conditions were still favorable in the northern parts of the Bay only. Several very large ice breaks have formed pushing walls of ice up so be on the lookout. South of the Escanaba River, the shipping channel is open so conditions are dangerous. Warm weather this week could cause some problems, so extreme caution needs to be used. Walleye anglers were taking fish near Kipling when jigging minnows with glows just off the bottom in 30 to 40 feet of water. The better catches were reported near Gladstone out near the break when fishing 6 to 10 feet off the bottom in 28 to 40 feet of water. Perch anglers had mixed results with most reporting very good numbers of small fish. Try jigging wax worms in 28 to 36 feet of water near Kipling and the Narrows. Those spearing northern pike have taken several nice fish in the Escanaba Yacht Harbor when using 8 inch suckers in 6 feet of water.
St. Mary's River - Ice conditions on Raber Bay are not safe.
Cedarville and Hessel - Cedarville Bay, Hessel Bay and Musky Bay are all good for yellow perch when using minnows or wax worms in 10 to 14 feet of water. You might even pick up a pike or two while jigging with minnows in Cedarville Bay. Walleye and perch have been caught when jigging minnows in 5 to 10 feet of water. The fish are scattered so move around. Use caution near the islands and the points.
Brevoort Lake - Anglers are catching walleye and yellow perch while jigging with minnows and wax worms.
