Has anyone heard if bear lake has ice in the marina yet; or is it still open. How bout it Scott any word!

Marina is wide open, fishing for whitefish is beginning to slow down. Cutthroat and lakers were being caught by jigging on the east side at 2nd Point in about 40' of water on tubes/cisco. The state park does not have the de-icers installed at the marina yet. It may be wise to email the park superintendent and ask why? Its easier to keep it open than to try to de-ice it once it freezes.

Thanks Scott for the insight on the ice conditions. Do you think maybe the reason why the deicers are not in is becuse the sail boats are not in the water!!

There are more sailboats in this year than any year in the past. Use the Utahlakeview.com website to see the BL marina live. The reason the de-icers are not in is because the manager has never been up here in the winter and isn't getting a lot of support from the rangers under him. If he would "assign" them the task they would get it done. The morale sucks at the state park and the rangers are putting up what is known in the military as "passive resistance". Or doing just enough not to get fired but make the supervisor look bad. Sad state of affairs.

Sounds to me Scott there needs to be an attitude adjustment with the rangers as well as the manager. I guess it doesn't matter what we say as boaters or fishermen; but anyway good luck to you fishing up there and hope to see ya on the water.

Just a quick update. The assistant park manager installed the de-icers yesterday at the marina. Things are looking up!

The de icers keep the marina from freezing so we can launch boats. At least until the lake freezes. WH2
