thats a hard one, for the kings, they go back to the lake and come back up and spawn again, coho die on the way back to the lake...
I hate to see a slue of dead fish floating back down the river, but if we have other species in the river at the same time then we cant have snagging either. if a dieing coho was fowled hooked on the way back down the river they should be allowed to keep them. you would have to have an officer there to put up a flag only on the days fowled hooked cohos can be kept... Primarily I am against it, but it could be feasible to do a little tweeking.... absolutly no snagging gear allowed on the river or in the car at any time... [signature]

I too am a anti-snagger but have witnessed hundreds of those that developed tactics that are just shy of the fishing regulations , some are all out in violation of the laws .
Alot of the people I have talked to think that snagging should be allowed for salmon in the fall, but not in the spring when the steelhead are running , differance being the mortality rate of the spawning salmon . I am under the impression that people forget the injuries fishermen recived before the laws changed . hundreds of people with severe injuries , hooks imbeaded in their bodys and eyes plucked out . Yes , I have listened to a lot of storys from the old school fishermen on the rivers . I think the D.N.R. should put out a pamplet or insert a page in the trout handbook that explains different legal methods (with diagrams )used to secure a fish . A little education could help out .
