Couldn't find anyone to take the boat out with, so I hit the Berry solo with the float tube. Left friekin early at 4:15 am to get there by 5:30ish. Had Soldier Creek to myself for the first hour or so and the fishing was super red hot. In the first 10 min. I caught a 25" and a 24" cutt. I was casting a rainbow pointer 78. I then hooked a third fish and felt two tugs and then a limp line - somehow my line broke without much pressure - must have been a flaw in the line from the last fish - $13 down the drain[mad]. As well as those pointers produce, the price sure can be depressing.
So I threw on a ghost brown pointer 78 and managed to nail another 7 in the next hour and a half and then only 1 the last three hours until 10 so I called it quits. I even caught one on a purple wolly bugger and missed two more more hits on it. I was amazed at the average size. Out of the 10 I caught, 4 easily were larger than the slot with the smallest going about 19". The fishing started off red hot and then cooled down as the boats and temperature increased. All fish were caught within 200 yards of the boat ramp - I just kicked back and forth while dodging boats and the fish were in there thick. If you go to Strawberry, go super early and work it hard for a few hours.
Sorry - no pics - cant risk the camera on a float tube.

I was anywhere from 10 - 50 yards from shore and I caught mostly casting towards shore. The earlier in the day the closer they were towards shore. I also noticed that I got more hits on faster retrievals. They really weren't buying the dying minnow immitation - they obviously were looking for some fiesty food. Good luck and maybe I'll see you up there. If you need some fishing buddies, let me know.

Jacksonman,
I will hit the Berry with ya anytime. Just let me know. I have a cabin up there in Bryants Fork and spend a lot of time around the lake and in the hills. We have a little 14 ft boat that we fish out of any love it.

We were out there on Saturday also. What a great day! The wind never came up till about 3:00 and by then we were just pulling off the lake. We ended up with 27 fish. My wife caught a 25incher! We ended up with 4 going over the slot, most in the slot and a few under the slot. We caught fish jigging, casting and trolling. I haven't seen the fish that active for a long time at Strawberry.
Here is a pic of my wife with her big fish. It flipped blood all over her during the photoshoot...she didn't like that a bit! The fish I'm holding up was 21 inches, and had a big kink in it.
I fished in the Mudcreek area and the CC areas and the Ladders.

Nice fish . I never broke the upper limit on cutts .Were you the one with a flyrod and spin rod on a tube ? I was up at 5:00am but was packing up camp or I might of fished next to you . I boated over to the boat slips about 6:30am and nailed about 5 before I headed out for Kokes but picked up a 21" cutt on a storm lure walleye color trolling about 4 mph leaving that bay . I fished the narrows more saturday than anywhere else , but no kokes . Cutts liked the jig dead in the afternoon . I sight fished most of them too down to about 30'.

thanks for the info. Hopefully we can get into them next week.
Does anyone know when the cutts spawn? Seems like it is about now... has it happened yet?

Yep, that was me out there with the old float tube and the fly and spin rod. I have holes in my wader so I can inly handle a couple hours at a time and don't ever trust the weather at Strawberry so i try to stay close to where I launch. Nothing beats catching monster cutt's in a tube. Glad you were able to catch some - I can't catch koke's there either. Maybe we need to set up a koke outing with a few guys that know what they are doing.
