#1
THIS IS A LITTLE OFF THE SUBJECT, I AM PLANNING A TRIP TO SO.CAL AND CATALINA NEXT MONTH. CAN ANYONE RECOMEND A GOOD MODERATELY PRICED PLACE TO STAY ON CATALINA ISLAND ???? THIS IS NOT A FISHING TRIP, JUST A QUICK GETAWAY WITH MY WIFE..............

I usually like to stay at the ST. Catherine Hotel. We are now into the off season so the prices are a little more down to earth.

Some of the other hotels have different prices but don't tell you up front that you are sharing 1 bathroom with all the other rooms. Only a few hotels there actually have bathrooms in all of the rooms.

St. Catherines Hotel is located close enough to the docks of the Catalina Express and plenty close enough to the other shops and attractions that the Island has to offer.

Send me a Private message if you have any specific questions. I can also send you the name and phone # of the hotel manager.

Just in case you change your mind about fishing, there are 23 different species that you can catch right off of the docks over there. Most of them can be caught on light tackle.[cool]

How was the fishing at Catalina? Did you rent a boat or fish off the Green Pleasure Pier?

Hi tubeN2,

On the subject of Catalina ... I know a guy ... handle is fishincatalina who lives in Avalon and fishes big.......time. Daily Pier rat and the whole deal!

Thinking about tubing/fly fishing Avalon for the bonies next month. Shouldn't be a problem if one goes other then the weekend or holidays and doesn't get too near the boats.

If you plan on going to CAT in the near future, I have something to save you some on parking.

That sounds like a good deal JR. Anything to save a few duggets is nice.

I used to fish the bones there alot from the Cabrillo Mole. All the locals would come down every day from 1pm to 4pm. That is the traditional time slot for the better bones to come through.

I know a couple of the locals there by first name basis and we always swap tips and tricks. When I was going on the monthly basis, they would even put in tackle orders for me to bring them from the mainland.
It was cheaper for them that way and all they had to do was reimburse me the price on the receipt and a few brewskies. Go figure.[cool]

I was always wanting to go tube that area too but change my mind when I see the enormous school of Mullet screaming through followed by a 500lb+ BSB. Big enough to swallow a dunut and maybe an FC4 or SFC in 2 bites.[pirate]
