The political season has started and it seems like the time for the Bantam battle is here.
For a little history; The State leases the land the current State Boat Launch sits on at Bantam Lake. The lease is due to expire this year I believe. The Towns of Morris, Bantam and Litchfield have expressed a desire to NOT renew this lease. The boating division of DEP claims they are trying to negotiate but if the deal falls thru, they are ready to develop the Camp Columbia property on the south end of the lake.
But now a new Bill has been introduced to the Legislature:
Proposed H.B. No. 5595 REP. MINER, 66th DIST. 'AN ACT CONCERNING THE DESIGNATION OF BANTAM LAKE FOR PRESERVATION', to designate Bantam Lake as a heritage lake. REF. ENVIRONMENT
The only other lake in the state that is designated a "Heritage Lake" is Waramaug.
I don't believe this bodes well for any fishermen who enjoy Bantam Lake. Might be time to start your e mails and phone calls again.![[Image: mad.gif]](http://www.ctfisherman.com/ubb/mad.gif)
