[cool][#0000ff]Got up an informal BFT floatation flotilla for this morning. Out4Trout was waiting for me and TubeBabe when we pulled into the launch area at 7 AM. I suspect he had been there waiting all night.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Fairwayphilly pulled in right behind us and we all got our cold weather gear on in the parking area under the bright lights and headed for the first spring to get launched.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]I started my anti-W dance last week. It worked. Hardly a puff of breeze or a ripple on the water until we started preparing to get off the water about 12:30. [/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Air temp was about 35 at launch and water temp was about 42. It had cooled off about 10 degrees from our last trip, two weeks ago. That seemed to have the fish moving close in to the shoreline near the spring inflows. Most of the fish taken were in shallow water. [/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]I was the first one launched and had taps on my first three casts. On the fourth, I felt a live "backpressure" and set the hook firmly. Line peeled off the drag on my small baitcaster and I got whupped pretty good by the "dorsal diner" carp. It was a mirror carp, with only a few scales.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]The other floatin' fanatics weren't far behind me into the water and Phil got to play with another buglemouth. Then, it was TubeBabe's turn, only her fish was inexperienced and didn't know how to hang on. However, she did bring a decent white bass to the tube, to score the first "desirable" species.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Oh yeah, Iconoclastic Paul (formerly WalleyePaul) also showed up to join the pursuit. He left early and I do not know how he scored. I know he missed a couple of good hits while I was near him.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]We all moved around, trying to find some willing wallies. No go. Then, walleyebob and Brad pulled up in the old blue bomber and advised that they had been catching fish later in the day and after dark. Probably something to do with the weather or the moon. Any excuseis better than none.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Bob's years of experience and recent trips to the lake put them on a spot that they had been doing well. They took several walleyes over a period of a couple of hours, and Bob lost a big ol' biggun right at the net.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Then it was my turn. I had stretched my string out pretty good on several carp before I finally felt the characteristic thump of a munching walleye. I set the hook and rassled in a reasonably healthy 23" wallie. The next fifty casts to the same area got zilch. [/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]TubeBabe and I kicked our way slowly up to an area we had found fish two weeks earlier. There was one left over. TubeBabe scored a skinny 22 incher. But, it made her just as happy as a much bigger fish would have. However, it only weighed 3 pounds, whereas my fish, one inch longer, weighed 4.6 pounds.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Fairwayphilly hung with us for awhile, and worked the water to a froth. Then he used the electric trolling motor on his 'toon to fish way on down to the west. He was just coming back in as we pulled out to go home, so I don't know how he finished for the day.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Geoff (O4T) put in a mighty effort. In fact, we really could all learn by his example. He released every fish he hooked today. Some of them after only a few seconds. Others he kept on for several minutes before arranging a long line release. They may have been carp. But, then again, if you don't get to see them, they can be anything you want them to be.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]TIP: The "regulars" are fishing the outlets of the first two springs in close and catching a few white bass. The ones who did best were throwing small chartreuse tube jigs. In fact they caught a couple of nice walleye on them too. Later, a guy was hanging a small jig about three feet under a bobber and picking up a few whities also.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]There were quite a few mudcats taken in the warm outflow of the spring today, but I did not see any channels. Walleyebob said that someone fishing off the point yesterday, with leeches below a bobber, caught a couple of walleye, some white bass, two largemouths and a channel cat.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]All in all, a fun day for we of the floatation persuasion. Northwest wind was just starting to build when we left. [/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Trick or Treat and Happy Halloween to BFTers.[/#0000ff]
