fish lake ice
#1
Fished fish lake today.
Fished off of road just north of Joe Bush. Drove to the ice and then 100 yds. further north . Walking out we angled a bit north as we went out onto ice sheet.
Fished just outside of weed line. Ice was 4" to 5" thick. Spots of snow and clear ice.
Quit a number people. I would guess about 15 outfits parked and people fished.
Saw a couple of tents on ice at far south end. We did not go there so no idea of ice conditions.

THERE ARE PATCHES OF OPEN WATER!
As we left we stopped and glassed the lake for this report.
Open water 50 yards off of Joe Bush.
Open water out from Bowery I would guess 200-300 yards.
Open water at center of lake out from Mackinaw campground.
I am certain there is other open we could not see.
Mackinaw is the furthest south we saw open water but I am certain most of the lake does not have safe ice.

Thanks for the update. I was going to give it a couple more days of these temperatures before heading back up there. How did you do?

A lot of typical (for us) fish lake rainbows. Largest being 1 1/2 lb.
20 or so splake largest being 1 3/4 lb.
As many perch as a feller wanted to catch. Left all those on the ice for the eagles to clean up.
Did not feel comfortable moving out for deeper water.
Saw couple macs cruising 3 or 4 feet under the ice. (5 to 8 lb)
Saw 10 to 20 suckers cruising 3 to 4 feet down.
