Strawberry ice may be done
#1
Started the day off early by driving down to Provo Canyon only to find it was closed. Went around to Parley's and finally made my way to the reservoir amid light snow. It was all downhill from there. Heavy snow on top of heavy slush made for very slow moving around, and the snowmobiles spent nearly as much time bogging as moving (not a good idea to take them). Very slow fishing. Very few fish on the finder, and hard to move around in that goop. I should have worn waders.

Because of the thick layer of heavy snow over that nasty slush, I'm not sure that a solid a cold wave would have a chance to freeze it solid. I may be done with ice for the year. Looking forward to ice-off.

I camped over from Friday to Saturday, it didn't stop raining until 3:00 in the morning. I've never fished in slush before, I'm new to ice fishing. I never want to do it again it at least that deep of slush! It was brutal, tried all colors of maniacs, white tubes, view different colors of paddle bugs and got NADA! Like mentioned before you may want waders.

I had a couple people with me who are new to ice fishing, too. I doubt they'll be in a hurry to get back out.

Oh yeah, been there before. The sled track just spins in the slush until you hit clear slick water covered ice and the track spins some more. One year, after spending three hours trying to unstick the sled with slush water pouring in over the tops of our boots we finally were able to lift the sled on top of some unspoiled snow and left it there to re-freeze over night. Came back the next morning right at dawn and I was able to drive it out. That was over a Presidents' Day weekend so about the same as now.

Sad to hear about deteriorating conditions, as I really want to get back at least once more....did you see anglers left or right of the Marina?.....I have absolutely never done any good at Strawberry on or near the Full Moon phase, always bad luck for me....last season we fished it 'til late March with pretty good success .....Say it ain't so! ....Guluk...
