Las Vegas Wash Fishing Report :03/27/15
#1
Hit Lake Mead, specifically the Vegas Wash area. I launched out of gov't wash around 8am. Water temperature was around 66-67 degrees in the Vegas wash. I tried to net shad for a 40 minutes and only ended up with two small threadfin for my efforts. Decided to beach the hobie and try my luck from shore. Best decision ever. Within 30 minutes I had 20 monster gizzard shad in the livewell and I was off to hunt some big boys.

Trolled up and down the wash and would get random hits every now and then. I figured it was those light weight Striper and they could fit those huge gizzard shad in their mouths.

After a couple of missed hook ups, I switch out my lighter hooks for a stinger rig with two 2/0 hooks to help encourage the striper to hold on. As I was switching the second pole to the stinger rig, my other pole does the tap, tap and then the tip dives into the water. I grab the pole out of the rod holder and I'm off on my very first sleigh ride. Whatever I have on the end of my rod started to pull be forward then side ways for about 20 feet.

After about 10 minutes of fighting it, I reeled in a 6.11 lbs. bad boy. I managed to pick up another 1lber before I called it a day. Even though the fishing wasn't hot and heavy, I really enjoyed catch my biggest striper on Mead. Pics of the bad boy is posted below for your viewing pleasure. I'll take quality over quantity any day.
