I had a fake IRS return submitted under my SS# last year. I owed money and have out a stop to any further problems with my stolen ID so not a big hassle for me. However if your information was used for a fraudulent return previously you should have a pin # issued by the IRS to go along with your returns now.
My CPA is also an attorney who used to work with the IRS. He still meets with them regularly. From what he told me some fraudulent IRS returns are names with random SS#. The IRS doesn't even bother to match them all up in their rush to get returns out. Got to love it when the Guvmnent sends our tax dollars out with all the precaution the rest of us would use when handling Monopoly money.
