Fishing Report - September 26, 2014 Striped Bass - We've heard of some solid reports this week of bass being caught in the surf in the South County, RI area, including several fish over 30 lbs. We've also heard a few solid surf reports from eastern CT as well as out at Block Island.
Bluefish - The CT river is still holding plenty of choppers. The river is still loaded with bunker. For the shorebound guys, the Causeway has been good. For the boat guys, there has been a nice school of fish chopping up bunkers and crashing bait at the breakwalls most mornings.
Snapper Blues - Still here and in good numbers. The usual spots such as the Causeway, DEP Piers, and Lieutenant Rivers are still excellent. People have been catching their limits in 15 minutes this week. They're pushing 8"+ now.
Sea Bass - Its been a fantastic year for em! they're here and still going strong, and they're gonna be here as long as you're willing to fish for em. Still good at all of the usual suspected spots.
Fluke - Closed. Congrats to Will Ward for winning this year's fluke contest!
Blue Crabs - The crabs still seem to be hanging on, but we've heard very little of people trying for them this week.
Porgies -This week there didn't seem to be a lot of effort, maybe the bottom fishermen were all thinking of sea bass and getting ready for blackfish.
Bonito - False Albacore - Reports this week indicate the fish are still around in the same areas as last week, but the pods seem to be smaller, the fish are not staying on top for long and they are becoming very difficult to fool. Many people we spoke to were only able to land a few, despite having many good shots at them.
Carp - Yes you read it right carp. It's amazing how many customers we've spoken with are into carp or would like to be.
There's been some consistently good catches in the Connecticut River. We've decided to support this year round fishery for something that's within every ones reach. We are stocking a good selection of carp tackle and baits. Some of your striped bass tackle can even be put on double duty.
