Rivers End Tackle Report
#23
Fishing Report -- September 5, 2014
Striped Bass - Not a lot of change from last week with the exception that a lot of that small bait has moved back inshore. There's no indication that there's any sign of a fall run starting, and that's still early. There was some word of bass action picking up from shore on Block Island and Montauk. Most of these fish are in the 6 to 15 pound range. The Block Island / Southwest Reef slaughter has ended, hopefully some of the surviving breeders have gone elsewhere.

Bluefish - We're continuing to see more blues discovering the bunker schools. From Madison to Old Saybrook we're getting reports of blitzes. The Connecticut River is prime for chunking and also some blitzes. Plum Gut has consistent action while the Race is still off most days.

Snapper Blues - No sign of them heading out soon. The usual spots such as the Causeway, DEP Piers, Lieutenant and Blackhall Rivers are excellent. Still a few weeks of good fishing are left. 6" sizes are now common.
Sea Bass - Reports form Block Island have been good and the increased limits make the trip worthwhile. Local reefs have been good but you have to pick through the shorts.

Fluke - Reports show that they're starting to move out but we still have some good fishing left. This is when they school up and you can hit it big at Montauk or Block. Hillyers Tackle weighed in a 12# from Block this week. Closer to our shores the numbers are dwindling.
Will Ward is leading the Flat Out Fluke Contest with a 10.30 pounder. Last day of the contest is Sept.21.

Blue Crabs - Good, not great but if you put in allow for extra time you can get some giant crabs now. With no big storms we should have another couple of weeks.

Porgies - Very good reports still are coming in from Hatchetts, Bartletts, Cranes and Hens and Chickens.

Bonito - False Albacore - Better reports are coming in from the East. The Falmouth, Buzzards Bay, Vineyard, Block Island area has vastly improved. Reports of albies also at Pt. Judith, Montauk and Watch Hill but spottier.

Carp - Yes you read it right carp. It's amazing how many customers we've spoken with are into carp or would like to be.
There's been some consistently good catches in the Connecticut River. We've decided to support this year round fishery for something that's within every ones reach. We are stocking a good selection of carp tackle and baits. Some of your striped bass tackle can even be put on double duty.

Summer hours.
Mon - Fri 5am -- 7pm
Saturday 4am -- 6pm
Sunday 4am -- 5pm
