On the Sportsman 9 the 1" T is only on the foot peg and it fits well. I drill the T and I pin it in the foot peg with the hitch pin. The T is a 1" x 3/4" I used that because the 1" Union seemed large but in retrospect I think I would use a 1"x 1" T and a 1" union. then I would use a 1-1/4" x 1" bushing. Then a 1-1/4" 45 degree elbow. Then the 1-1/4" pipe to the length you need. The only time I have ever broke one I was pulling the boat with it and snapped the 3/4" pipe at the T. My son broke one in the same place trying to turn the union without losing the union first. The 3/4" pipe at the union is a weaker spot that would probably be better if it were 1".
I have used these for several years and I love them.
I had a scotty in that spot and I hated it. I didn't like them so much that when I needed some for my Cataraft I didn't want to use scotty but I did. I like them in the way I use them on that boat. For the little pontoon they are just not a good fit.
