Storytime ... these posts are reminding me of this funny ...

I'll be new to ice fishing this season, so I don't have stories of my own yet.
I'm versatile. I can fish alone yet I'm intrigued about the social aspect of "tent city" I learned from recent posts of "... tent city is much like a tailgating party, and the hot chocolate ..."

I've been thinking about it lately and thinking on some trips I just might bring a grill and fryer and a kettle of hot chocolate for the social aspect.
Today, I tested my MarCum LX-9 at Sandy pond. Water temperature was 40 degrees at six feet camera depth viewing the bluegill's choice depth of the day. I got to see my jig dance in front of the camera. It wasn't much smaller than the curious photogenic bluegills showing up on sonar.
In a tent city environment, I wouldn't mind children and newbies at ice fishing learning technique by seeing their jigging action interact with fish by fishing in front of the camera. Perhaps a big pot of chili and a fish fry would be enjoyable for people.
I've been thinking about this more lately with thoughts of buying one of the larger ice fishing shelters. Not that I need a shelter as I'm hardened to the elements and bought very good warm clothing, but inviting friends and their families ice fishing means this would be good for them to feel confident they can even take their children where they can warm up when desired.
I'm also one to fish far and away from others at times to explore finding structure and where fish are schooling. There will be times when I test various new camping gear and my abilities to travel light and fast to improve preparedness skills -- sometimes alone and sometimes with friends.
