There sure is something I haven't done in a looooong time. I grew up/lived in Montana until I went into the military at age 18. Every weekend was something. If not fishing of some sort hunting. Be it elk, deer, antelope, ducks, grouse, chicken, etc, etc. Been there done that.
Here is a picture from the late 80s I believe. I was already in the Navy but went home for hunting season every chance I had until I got married. Generally speaking a "just" above average one back in those days. The only picture I can find around here of one. I have shot plenty of bigger ones.
A fairly nice Mule deer out of the Missouri River breaks. Shot him going away from me. Perfect shot. In the back of the neck and out the front. Zero loss of meat. Dropped him on the spot. Of course I was shooting a Ruger 300 (Winchester .300 mag rounds) so rightfully so he dropped on a dime. lol I wasn't even on planning on getting one that day so I grabbed my dads big gun for something to mess around with in case I needed to do a 500++ yard shot that day while I was out with one of his co-workers showing him where to go, etc. He missed. I didn't.
That rack is somewhere in my dads house on a wall covered in hats. The wife doesn't like wild meat so how it goes. Haven't shot anything in years. All of my rifles are still in Montana at my dads house... Browning 22-250 for varmits/Antelope, Remington 30-06 for most everything else, shotguns, etc, etc. Never had a reason to bring them out here.
