I agree that the Walmart anchovies are crap. Since I like to fish before sunrise, I stop at the Shell station at Lake Mead Blvd and Los Feliz. You can't miss it, its the last place to stop before heading past Sunrise Mt. They carry good quality frozen anchovy and sardines. The coffee is always hot and fresh and I stop on the way back for the 2 hotdogs for a $1.
Sandy Cove is closed until 7 am. Nice people there and they carry a good variety of tackle. I asked the guy why the late open since they are on the way to the lake. He said it wasn't worth opening early since they were only sell a few bags of frozen bait. It just isn't enough to pay the overhead.
I can keep the anchovies frozen by using two large reusable ice packs with the anchovy in between in a small insulated lunch bag.
