submoa, I like your comments and believe you're on the right track. I fished Yuba 9 times last year an landed 3 Northerns and 0 Walleye. I did return them due to the fact the biggest one was only 9 lbs.
The last two years(2008-2009) I was catching on average 1 to 3 Northerns per trip. Some days more and some days nothing was caught. I was fishing Yuba 4 to 5 days a month and some months even more. I have been told several times there are more Northerns and Walleye in Yuba than I could imagine. I have only witnessed 2 people that caught a FEW Walleye, and heard of only a couple people that had caught 1 or 2. I have however witnessed a lot more Northerns taken, some with their guts slashed and left floating. People claim they are "not supposed to be here and the DWR wants them gone anyway" what a joke. What a good plan, kill off the predators so the carp can completely take over. SUBMOA said it best, "the carp are the real problem". Until we can reduce or eliminate carp Yuba will continue to decline. Treatment that only effects carp? What?
