Funny how one person sees trawl nets that are used to see what kind of insects and prey are in the water and figures the UDWR can go into the business of trapping perch. Especially when the rest of the report indicates that the Walleyes are so abundant in the two reservoirs studied that they essentially eat every young of the year prey each year. But seem to ignore that the UDWR tried to reduce the Walleye in Starvation to the point of removing over 16,000 of them without being able to make a difference.
Seems to me like they are sitting on their hands and doing nothing to manage either of these reservoirs.
I advocate doing something every time you are there. Do exactly what the biologists have recommended since the repairs were made to the dam. Harvest the walleyes and the Northern Pike to help keep their numbers in check. You can't control the water level. You can't control the amount of structure in Yuba. You can't control the carp. You can't add more perch. There's all kinds of things that you can't accomplish at Yuba. But you can help the perch survive, and in turn help the other game fish by reducing the number of predators.
