Gizzard Shad nearly die off in Willard Bay Reservoir EXACTLY like the biologists have predicted. They haven't done that in Powell. They won't unless they outstrip their food supply. You might see thousands of 20+ pound Stripers in Powell. And then one day they may be able to eat enough of the Gizzard Shad to cause the same boom and bust situation that exists in Yuba.
The Golden Shiners in New Castle forced the DWR to spend money to try to fix a problem that didn't exist before some Bozo planted them.
The BULL is thinking that you can always add another species to solve the problem created from adding a new species in the first place. That's the same kind of thinking that the Government uses when they add more regulations and more departments to cut costs.
I like to catch Wipers too. I fish for lots of other fish. But putting Gizzard Shad in lakes to try to solve a problem only adds another problem. You'll notice that they didn't plant Striped Bass in New Castle. Why? Because they can't be controlled. Wipers can be controlled.
I guess you're right bassrods. Just throw fish everywhere. Whatever a lake or reservoir needs, just chuck it in. Where has that got us so far?
