Wolf sighting and shooting in Utah

My thought is this, if I were hunting and saw a wolf or wolves, I would take a good look at the situation and if I thought I could exterminate the beast and get away with it, I think I would. My question is this, are there others who feel the same? and also, what would happen if that happened and you got caught? Does anyone know what the consequences are on that? Just wondering.
