, it is a National Recreation Area managed by NPS, which means it receives substantial amounts of money from the Federal government as well as both states.
Second, as a Mountain View Town Councilman, your comments are pretty irresponsible for a "Sworn Public Official" about Wyoming Tourism and the amount of money the great State of Wyoming receives into their coffers from the "non-residents" you dislike so much. You are held to a higher standard and I consider myself fortunate you're not representing my views and opinions.
Wow!!! I knew this was going to be a hot topic with us that fish the gorge.
MyKnights ,the flaming gorge national recreation area(fgra) to my understanding is under the jurisdiction of the USFS and no other govt agency. This is why they have total control over the roads, campgrounds, boat ramps, floating docks, everything else except the water levels,,and the fish in the water. I have never heard of the state of wyoming, donating any money directly to the USFS for the fgra. I know that the Wfg have helped to replace, repair, and expand some the boat ramps at the gorge. But that money came from the Pittman fund. Braz stated this earlier, and not from the general fund from the state.
I don't like having to pay any more taxes to fish the gorge ,then any one else. Personally I feel the WFG is a little slow in coming to the dance. I will hold my judgment for now ,and will give the program a chance to prove it self. A extra ten bucks will not make me or break me.
As for out -of staters having to pay more. I think you have to look at the risk factors here. IMO I feel that with AIS already in neighboring states waters, that a higher risk of the gorge being infected with ais, will come from a out of state boat. (I'm not picking on out of state fisherman here) it's just the way I see it.
As for Braz saying "if ya don' like it,then don't fish the gorge". He is right,no one is holding a gun to any of our heads ,to make us buy the new sticker.I don't think Braz likes paying more to fish the gorge, then any of the rest of us do.
Now as for Braz, being a council men for Mt View . I fail to see where he should be held to a higher standard. His views here are from a concerned citizen, and a tax paying sportsmen. Not as a councilmen,I sure don't see why that would stop him from expressing his views. He has brought some great insight to this thread.
