How to know what type of motor?

BLFG isn't kidding about those older motors not being fussy with oil types. I have an old air cooled motor, I can still read the mixing directions on the front, it say to use 30 wt. regular motor oil.
As far as the difference between air and water cooled engines, the biggest difference is there is no pee hole[blush] on air cooled engines.
