I have spent over $3,000 on some of the best known fly reels over the past 5 years from US and foriegn manufacturers. I had trouble with reels with even the best reputations. I see some major players ads with thier great promises that make me sick. What a joke.
When I would get the reel wet with all day line overspray or accidentally dunked the reel in the water they would turn into a coffee grinder and back to the truck I would go.[mad] I would have to max out the drag and still not have enough to stop a big salmon from taking me into the river wood. Carbon fiber drags are a joke, but it wasn't funny when my reel free spooled and blew the fiber crap all over my reel hand...you guessed it back to the truck.[mad]
My search for the best reel is over.
From the lightest wieght, best startup inertia, best surface finish, most durable / wieght ratio, waterproof bearings/drag, easiest spool removal, and heaviest drag, USA made reel that I will ever use.
For a small fee (to recover my $3000) I will divulge the name of the best reel manufacturer.[]
