Pheasants '09
#5
Made it out twice jumped a rooster each time and a couple hens but they are all still out there to seed next years crop of birds. my lab is a duck dog so he wasn't much help to me(my fault I could have trained him for it). went out to howard slouch, did a little duck/pheasant combo. Pup decided to step on a nail middle of last week, ended hunting for half the hunt. $400.00 vet. bill

My first day out I had a funny experience. Was walking out a road to were I was going to hunt, grasses were 10' tall on each side of the road. About 80 yards in front of me on the other side of the grasses some good ol'boys were working their dogs up over the road a hen jumped...BAM.. He missed. As I got closer they could see me through the separations of grass another hen jumped, they didn't shoot. When I got close enough to talk to them I asked " Are hens legal to shoot this year?" I got a sheepish reply "no their not" just then another hen jumped right in front of me. My question kind of worked two ways,I had not read a proc. and wasn't sure what regs. were and #2 they knew someone saw what they were doing.
