Marine TC-W 3 is very different from "normal " 2 stroke oil. The crankshaft bearings in your outboard are very different from those in a chain saw, a weed whacker, or a lawnmower. The reed valve/carb setup is also very different. TCW means "Two Cycle Water-cooled" and any other oil is formulated for air-cooled engines which typically have higher combustion temps. A water-cooled outboard won't generate the heat required to burn regular 2 stroke oil off (hence the excessive smoke), especially if you aren't running at WOT most of the time. Excess unburned oil means more and faster carbon build-up on cylinder walls, piston crowns and transfer ports. Coked-up cylinders lead to sticky rings, lost compression, lost power and ultimately, catastrophic engine failure.
