Well guys , I guess this one is on me [blush].
I took a nap sometime during the A.M. hours , just guessing 3 or 4 a.m. .
When I got up I couldn't find my cell phone anywhere .
I didn't see it in the truck , around the truck , the stairs or where I was fishing last night .
Anyway, I parked right at the pathway entrance to the stairs in case you showed up . I stayed at the bottom of the stairs and fished until 2 , 2:30 and decided to call it a day .
Maybe next time ?
As far as the fishing went last night it sucked the big one .
I had 2 10 second runs on a couple kings last night , both on an old spawn bag from last year I found in my vest .
Flies weren't working at all and I chucked plenty of patterns .
It was pretty crowded down there too.
One guy had 4 kings and a 17 lb. cromer on his stringer , hooked with spoons and yep they were a little torn up on the fins .
This morning I hit the Fishermans Headquarters bait & tackle shop right by Tippy dam road and picked up a couple flies to give them a go and a couple dozen wax worms for some steelhead . Freshest wax worms ever , none of those half dead things the other stores had . I left them a couple BFT stickers for the store door .
I decided to give the wax worms a try first , I swapped my reels out and went to 6# mono , maybe the line color played a big part in it but from that moment on I was catching browns an hooked into some really decent silver .
The first cromer rolled over the coffer 15 pounder at least . The second fish was a king (maybe a 10 pounder )that rode the top of the water like a speedboat .
Then came a few dozen browns and a crowd of other fishermen trying to squeeze me out , I didn't give the spot up i just started slinging my rod around on every cast to discourage them from being anywhere around me .
Soon after that little episode I hooked into another cromer that literally spooled me out .
Then a few more browns and then the last fish of the day , one ugly bugle mouth bass . He had to be all of 18 lbs. and was pretty easy to bring in , landing it was something else , they don't beach to easy .
The tip for today ( during daylight only ) was , lighter line 6# test , 4'to5' lead line (6# test ) , and bring it up off the bottom , I went from a normal 4" drop line (5# test ) to a good 12" off the bottom with a 3/8 weight . hooks were blood red or gold single egg circles with a barb on the shank , sizes 18,16, and 14 . the smaller the better .
Dave , that pocket warmer I talked about last night , worked excellent !
The Brethren side was about a ghost town last night with most of the fish on that side right above the spill way .
The Welston side was littered with every kind of garbage you could think of , paper , cans , bottles , even a busted in half old shakespeare fiberglas snagging rod with 100# test spiderwire line all over the place .
