Settlement Canyon Res.
#13
It's not what it used to be for sure, but it still beats the urban fisheries here in the Salt Lake valley. We've done OK to pretty good in the past. I really enjoy it in the evenings when the sun starts setting and the fish start rising. When I see the swallows taking bugs off the water I know it's time to fish it with a fly. Problem is that many evenings that canyon wind comes up and makes it hard to see the rises or it even puts the fish down.

During daylight hours I like to use a small blue fox spinner, size 0 to size 1. Gold seems to get the most action, but silver does OK. I think in the past three years we have caught a total of one trout on Powerbait with another couple on a night crawler. The chubs love the crawlers, no problem keeping the kids happy with those. It's also fun for the kids to catch the crawdads, one more thing to keep them interested.

I do think that there is a lot more pressure than there was 10 years ago. Even in the middle of the week there is usually a pretty good crowd. I also notice a lot more garbage up there. Still, I like the setting and it's close enough to home that I can be there with the kids in about 30 minutes.
