Congrats on getting your CCW!!! Every Law Abiding Citizen should get one the world would be a safer place.
Anyway you actually have a very valid question that is very difficult to answer, so I will give you a couple of answers.
#1. If it were me I would go with the XD over the S&W any day of the week. I personally do not own one because I am a Glock kinda guy, but I have many friends who do own one and I do have high regards for them. I am sure the S&W is a good gun but I still am on a S&W boycott due to their settlement with the Anti-Gun lobby 8 years ago.
#2. With that said, you should get the gun that fits you best and makes you feal the most comfortable handling and concealing. This is why I like the Glocks, they just fit my hands and body the best.
