Scofield (12/10/07)
#1
Arrived at the dam around 8 and was greeted with -10 temps. Despite the colder temps. the ice was around 4-5 inches with a water/slush layer. Based on previous reports, I was expecting to be slaying them but the fish had planned otherwise. I ended up landing five rainbows. I was fishing in 17 ft of water directly across from the SP boat ramp. I typically move often in search of the active fish, but with the slush/water monster I stayed put and waited for them to come to me. I was using the standard white plastics and based on what I was seeing with the Aqua-vu I downsized to a #8 ratso tipped with a mealworm and had better success. The fish were very finicky and were nosing the bait rather than biting. Good thing there were several crawfish on the bottom to keep me entertained while I waited for the fish to cooperate. When I left around 3 the temp had rose to 8 degrees.
