Ice fishing trick that works

Saw a old timer on the lake doing this trick .
A couple old gallon glass pickle jugs (had the finger hole handlel on them and capped the jugs with vents cut in it ), filled with water and minnows . He cut holes in the ice lowered the jugs in near where he was going to be fishing the next day .
He was catching fish nonstop when he arrived at his spot the next morning .
