Great day on the Berry 10/9/07

[#002850]Bait_Caster and myself have been aching to get down to the Berry for some of that highly advertised shallow minnow chucking cut fishing. So, with much planning and high expectations, we made the trip down today and had a royal ball.

After getting lots of good info from the likes of MGB, petty4life, and especially piscispersuit, we went pretty prepared. Man, what a cool Web site this is. Saved me like two years of time on the water to make our day good today.

BC borrowed his neighbor’s boat and told him that he couldn’t come because Old_Coot was taking his place. That Trophy boat is one NICE ride man. Except that the Lowrance fish finder didn’t work so we substituted a larger one in it’s place. The connections worked and we had good screen results but since the head was much bigger, we just propped up in place to get by. [/#002850]

After Rube Golburging the fish finder, we were finally in the water at 7:00. We were tossing Ghost Brown Pointers and Aurora Brown Pointers into the weeds. We found a couple VERY NICE holes that I hope to visit again in the future. But then again, I hear those fish move a lot.

I had the hot stick today. BC boated 15 cuts and I boated 21 cuts. Not bad for a couple of newbies. I caught three over the slot: 23, 24, and big ole 26er that weighed 7 lbs. Man, that fishery never ceases to amaze me. Those are some healthy good looking fish.

Today, rather than let the wind get the best of us, we would just anchor up in weeds about 10 feet deep and cast with the wind WAY down along the shore. Two out of thee casts would produce lots of weeds on the hooks. But there are still plenty of cuts after those pointers when weeds aren’t on them.

BC boated about five of his catch by vertical jigging tubes tipped with chub and I got one that way. We found a good “hole” that we pulled them out of.

We left for home around 4:00 tired from casting all day and sun burnt.

ScottieB and Fish-N-Coach were also down there in Scottie’s boat. I’ll let them share their report.

Man, what a great day on the Utah water.
