I never have listened to music on the river. I can see where paddling around a pond or lake it would be nice to listen to music while doing it. It is easy enough to turn off the the tunes to tune into the sounds of nature. Nature can get deafening silient and boring at times just like living in the asphalt and concrete jungle of humanity- though it is seldom quiet.

I think it is good to combine the things you like. Listening to music and watching nature can be enjoyable so as long as you have it plugged in your ear and not poluting the air waves from shore or your boat sounds good to me.
