[cool]The sealed lead acid battery is a closed system, gel cell battery with no filler caps or liquid acid to fill or spill. Greatly simplifies life for us flotation fanatics that don't need one more thing to worry about on the water. I think I got my first one through Cabelas, complete with trickle charger, for about $35. Most outlets that supply portable fishfinder units sell them. You can find them at Radio Shack and other electronics places too. I just visited a specialty battery supply place, with all kinds of batteries for computers, cell phones etc. They had a whole range of sizes, shapes and voltages...and chargers to recharge them. I even saw some the other day at a prospectors' and gold miners show, for powering the little recirculating pumps they use for washing gold concentrates.
Here's another pic that might help. It shows the battery I am currently using, and it also shows how I attach the transducer to the bottom of a piece of half inch pipe. I will send a diagram on that to your email address, along with some other writeups. Feel free to email me back if you need some technical assistance. It's always more difficult the first time, but surprisingly simple once you have done it and understand the principles involved.
