LINCOLN, Neb. -- Nebraska artists, both amateur and professional, are reminded that its time to get started on artwork they want to enter in the 2007 Habitat Stamp Art Contest sponsored by the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission and the Omaha Fish and Wildlife Club. The deadline is March 1, 2007.
Artists interested in submitting an entry should visit the contest Web page for specific rules and entry requirements for the 2007 contest because there have been some changes this year.
The 2007 winning adult entry will appear on the 2008 Nebraska Habitat Stamp and the artist will receive $300 from the Omaha Fish and Wildlife Club. Finalists and honorable mentions will receive a one-year subscription to NEBRASKAland Magazine. All participants receive a certificate of merit.
The Nebraska Habitat Stamp is required of all hunters ages 16 years and older and all nonresident hunters regardless of age. Money raised from the sale of stamps goes into the Habitat Fund, which is used to acquire and enhance habitat on state and private lands.
An oil painting of a pronghorn by Zachary Even of Sidney was selected as the adult winner of the 2006 Nebraska Habitat Stamp Contest. That artwork will appear on the 2007 Nebraska Habitat Stamp.
Only Nebraska residents are eligible to enter the contest. The artwork may depict any Nebraska wildlife species in suitable habitat except pronghorn, bighorn sheep, white-tailed deer, elk, American widgeon, which are ineligible this year.
