Ice Shelter Upgrade Question
#4
[black]I've owned a few of the different brands of ice shelters and my favorite is the one I currently an using. It made by Otter. If you go look [/black][black]http://www.otteroutdoors.com/[/black][black], you'll be able to browse their different fish houses.[/black]

[black]Why do I like the Otter brand over the Eskimo, Frabil, etc? If you're towing with a snowmobile, you need a sled designed for towing first and not as an afterthought. The Otter sled has thick plastic walls, thicker than most all other sleds and have higher sides which help it to protect the contents. The hitch connections are molded into the sled and are heavy duty.[/black]

[black]The front of the sled is not a square box but sloped much like a boat's bow which allows the sled to float on top and not plow through the deep stuff. When you plow, you can have a tendency to force snow up the front of the sled an under your cover which will load the sled full of unwanted snow. That sucks. Otter offer high speed runners that you can add to the sled so the runners wear out and not your expensive sled. When using a snowmobile, you absolutely need a cover.[/black]

[black]The shelter frame is not steel conduit but aluminum square tubing which is much lighter. The shelters are very well thought out and are comparable in design with the QuickFlip and Clam Shell styles. They fold up and down quickly. They also have an optional swivel seat which, in my opinion, is 10X better than the benches. Whatever you do, don't get a bench. After hours of fishing, they are not very comfortable. A swivel seat with a back is the way to go.[/black]

If money is secondary and you want the best, go for the Otter set up. The only time you'll regret it is when you open your wallet but after that, you'll be glad you did.[/black]
