I just got in touch with Craig Schaugaard at the DWR in regards to the splake / tiger trout mixture in Causey. 2 summers ago, due to a shortage of splake and an overabundance of tigers, tiger trout were planted in Causey. Last year, that stocking rotation went back to splake again. This was done because the division did not want to go a full year without stocking fish into the reservoir. So it's now become an experiment: if tigers end up getting bigger and / or surviving better they may change management plans to include tiger trout as the "stocking breed" for Causey.
I can't wait to see how that goes. Splake sure get big in places like Fish Lake, but in Causey, who knows? We should keep an eye on the developments for the sake of the fishery and our interests, and let the DWR know of what we're seeing as well! After all, WE'RE PAYING FOR IT!
