sharing info on a fishing area
#3
Good topic, there are a few over on the Utah board that would say you should NEVER share fishing reports because it is "hot spotting" and they would never do that so the choose to do "not spotting". I say what fun is that. I like to share my fishing adventures and in return like to hear about other peoples fishing adventures. With that being said I believe you need to use disgression and good judgement as to what bodies of water you post about and how much info you share in your post. Some smaller bodies of water (lake or river) just can not survive an onslaught of new fisherman, others can handle it without any problem. If you feel the body of water you have fished could handle a little more pressure then make your post but keep your information general as to location and presentation. They say that 90% of the fish are in 10% of the water (who said that anyway???) so if some new guys show up chances are they are going to be in the wrong area of the lake anyway and not be very successful. They (who are they anyway) also say that 90% of the fish are caught by 10% of the anglers. These 10% are usually those who have paid their dues, done their research, put in their time, and learned the water and fish they are targeting. Even armed with basic information the average angler in not going to show up to lake he has never fished before and just start slaying the fish. Some are lucky enough to have it that way but not most.

So in summary, keep posting your reports cause I like reading them. However use good judgement in how much info you include on sensative waters. Use PM's for sharing selective details to selective other users at your disgression. If someone shares info with you through a PM then it should be kept to yourself unless you have permission to share that information. With that being said I think we need to spend more time fishing!!![cool]
