PrinceFisher, Bear Claw etal,
Great report and it supports other research that i've read, primarily from Arizona.
I've always felt, and still do, that the destruction/modification of habitats is the greatest threat to all our wildlife.
I've had the good fortune to hunt some terrific, and now famous?, habitat in southern utah. The elk are doing very well while the mule deer have declined in the area. The quantity of lion and coyote tracks there are most impressive. Lion, coyotes, bear and even bocats take the fawns/calves on a scale not realized by most.
Predators are usually credited with thinning the herds of the sick and weak etc.. The question that remains is what happens when they run out of the sick, lame or lazy? A lot of discussion/remarks is available on the WY G&F website re the Grizzly Bear delisting.
I don't believe that UT DWR is thinking about re-introducing the wolf. They have been/are in the Uintas and it is only a matter of time before the existance is an issue. What DWR is working on is establishing a working plan for what to do when that time arrives. I already have my plan in place
