[cool][#0000ff]Fun story. Got a better one. I got a hammerhead about that same size off the end of Huntington Pier many long years ago, while fishing for bat rays. I was rigged for it and whupped that shark pretty good. Only problem was landing it. Neither my pier gaff or hoop net were up to the task. Somehow managed to take the rod around poles and up over the bait shack, with the help of a well-dressed drunk who had joined me as the only other person on the pier after midnite.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]As we got toward the surf zone, my buddy disappeared. He showed up running out on the beach and into the water...in his obviously expensive suit. I couldn't believe it when he waded out and got a headlock on the tired shark. When he had it up on the sand, I cut the line and ran down to assist.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]The guy was sitting beside the motionless shark, laughing like a maniac. He offered me a hundred bucks to help him load it in his car. Sounded like a good deal to me, and we trudged it to the parking lot and loaded the messy beast into the back of a big station wagon. [/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]THE REST OF THE STORY? A couple of days later there was a story in the paper about a guy who came out for his morning swim and found a hammerhead shark in his pool. My tipsy buddy was a practical joker.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Only large hammerhead I have ever caught, but have taken lots of pups in the Sea of Cortez.[/#0000ff]
