EXOTIC FISH A CONCERN FOR STATE'S NATIVE FISH, SPORTFISH MANAGEMENT
#3
It's possible the bighead carp are harmful. I personally wouldn't want them in my waters. I'm mostly saying I hate the fact that gamefish are considered exotic fish in some locals. And I really do think they exaggerate the dangers.
It would be terrible though if the carp ate all the plankton. Yellow perch have been planted in Blue Mesa and supposedly they could damage the kokanee (the main forage for lakers, browns, and rainbows) by consuming a lot of plankton. Whether or not I believe the hype, I haven't decided. I would hate for it to be true, although I think perch consume mostly smaller invertebrates rather than plankton.
